Thompson-Spires, thankfully, depicts a wide range of people, not seeking either overwhelmingly positive or negative images of a race but capturing diversity - reality - in much of its multifarious beauty and terror. In Heads of the Colored People, we see just how dynamic relationships can be, both in person and digitally. Not all of Thompson-Spires’s stories are overtly satirical, and they become progressively more serious as the collection progresses, but a thread of outrageous, glaring self-awareness runs through the collection, granting even many of the more severe tales a tone of dark comedy. Thompson-Spires’s metafictional satires, oriented around questions of blackness, join a particular tradition of African-American fiction, recalling the sardonic absurdism of Everett’s Erasure and Paul Beatty’s The Sellout, among others. Clever, cruel, hilarious, heartbreaking, and at times simply ingenious, Thompson-Spires’s experimental collection poses a simple, yet obviously not-simple, question: what does it mean to be a black American in this day and age?. ![]()

![]() ![]() This over-the-top and overly-optimistic attitude spills over into the "real world" of the film, which is reflected in its cheesy acting and the attitudes of the young cadets as they rise through the ranks of the future United States military. In it, violence is celebrated with images adapted directly from Nazi propaganda films, especially one scene in particular that showcases a rally eerily similar to those that were conducted for the Reich Labor Service in Nazi Germany. It is an advertisement encouraging young people to sign up for the mobile infantry, to sacrifice their lives for the greater good of violence. The propaganda film that opens the movie sets the pace and mood for what's to come. If they had been, it's possible Starship Troopers would have been taken more seriously. It's unfortunate that statements such as this were not more widely circulated in the 1990s. ![]() ![]() So, what will Ken’s new book be about? There are biosecurity rules for the transport of animals: animals must not be able to escape and excrements must not fall out, visual inspection must be possible. The animal health requirements for movements within the Union of bovine animals are laid down in Regulation (EU) 2020/688. Sanger supported this assertion by pointing towards reporting from June 2019 that claimed the Trump administration had opted for a cyber response rather than airstrikes in response to the Iranian shootdown of a United States’ drone. Cyber attacks appeal to policymakers because they offer a response option that is not perceived to be as escalatory as conventional military strikes with kinetic munitions. Sanger explained during his visit that cyber warfare is a niche form of conflict that can largely be carried out below the threshold of conventional armed conflict, also known as “grey zone.” As a result, nation-states are using cyber operations on a regular if not daily basis.
